Dillon Wind Power Project

The Dillon Wind Power Project is a 45 megawatt (MW) wind farm located in Palm Springs and Riverside County, California. The power from Dillon goes to Southern California Edison customers to meet increasing demand for clean, renewable generation resources and to help California cope with fuel price volatility, greenhouse gas limits and smog. The Dillon Wind Power Project also will provide $12 million in property taxes to support much-needed Riverside County services.

Even before coming online, Dillon was a good citizen in the community. Students, parents and teachers from Palm Springs' Cahuilla Elementary School got a close-up look inside a modern wind turbine. Prior to their visit, some students built their own wind turbines, learning the basic science of wind and electricity. Following the experience, the teachers used it as a trigger for an art and writing exercise. As a result of this partnership, the Dillon Wind Power Project was recognized by Palm Springs Unified School District with a Shiny Apple Award. Later, the project's larger community relations efforts received a PRism Award from the Los Angeles Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
